Make Equality Real
One of the first things we cover in the Become an Equality Champion eBook is the importance of language. In fact, language is one of the biggest initial barriers on the path to equality. When it comes to equality, language matters.

For example, diversity and inclusion are two terms that frame most discussions about equality. And for true equality in the workplace -- or anywhere else -- you need both.
  • Diversity is the full range of ways people can identify themselves. Diversity includes race, ethnicity, gender or gender identity, age, religious affiliation, and sexual orientation. But it goes beyond that to differing educational backgrounds, personalities, culture, life experience, and physical abilities.

  • Inclusion means that people are valued, heard, respected, and empowered. They feel a real sense of belonging to the group or community of which they’re a part. It goes beyond tolerance to respecting and celebrating every member of the group.
A company can be vastly diverse, but if those diverse perspectives aren’t heard and valued, there’s no equality.

The eBook contains lots more tips and practical advice, like the four best practices for equality allies and how to recognize and reduce unconscious bias.
